I am very pleased to let you know that Fremantle Prison won the award for Best Interpretation of a place on the State Register at the Western Australian Heritage Awards last Thursday 10 June 2010 at Council House.  Our submission focused on interpretation signage developed for the site over the last year including: The Visitor Centre, The Terrace, Entry Complex signage and Tunnels Complex.

This was the first time the Interpretation category featured in the awards. As the inaugural winner Fremantle Prison now provides the benchmark for quality interpretation in the Western Australian heritage industry. Our submission has set the standard that future submissions will need to follow.

The quality of the design work and the close attention paid to conforming with Burra Charter principles in terms of fixings, materials and visuals were the main reason the project won the award.

The design work you have delivered over the last two years has been of the highest quality and has helped to create a world-class experience for visitors coming to Fremantle Prison. In particular the uniform aesthetic now featured on interpretive materials throughout the Prison has vastly improved the sense of identity and place experienced by visitors exploring the Prison.

I look forward to continuing a very beneficial working relationship with Axiom and the completion of current on-going projects including the Convict Depot, Sally Port Signage, and Fairbairn Street Interpretation Signage.

When we first engaged Axiom our website was fairly basic.

Axiom has a robust discovery stage where they uncover unique insights, planning exactly how the website will work, and the content that will be required. This ensures no unwanted surprises pop-up during the build, and that you don’t end up with a completed website, but are then rushing around to find content to fill it!

As part of the digital strategy, Axiom’s digital marketing team worked with us to identify keywords that we should target and rewrote our content to perform better. Axiom benchmarked us against our competitors, so we knew where we ranked. To date Sign Here has not spent a single dollar on AdWords and our SEO rating is in the top 3 on Google for the searches we are targeting.

Gravity Crane Services required some serious brand definition to accompany a strategic change to the company which would see it repositioned and with its service offering re-defined. The LEARN Foundation for Autism has used Axiom for brand re-design, website design and ongoing design services. Thank God, for Axiom!

With our new Interpretation Master Plan in hand I approached Axiom (highly recommended by our heritage consultants) to begin work on a way-finding and interpretation signage project. From the very first meeting with Ben and Sean in 2012 I knew we were in good hands, and the professionalism is evident in their other staff too.

New Norcia (Australia’s only monastic town) is a unique place of spiritual, cultural and historical significance. Having proved themselves with the concept design, fabrication and installation of the first stage of the signage project, we have commissioned the exemplary services of Axiom in other projects for this very complex site, including the design and production of a new suite of brochures, and the design and installation of a poignant display in the Mission Cottages Interpretation Centre.

In this bicentennial year of the birth of our founder Rosendo Salvado, Axiom have risen to the occasion with unflagging zeal and made a significant contribution to the design and installation of a very fine exhibition ‘In searching of Salvado’ in our museum and art gallery and produced an exquisite souvenir booklet to commemorate the extraordinary life of this missionary monk.

As project manager for a not-for-profit organisation, it is my job to communicate with the many people involved in the development of a successful project. Both staff and volunteers are required to come together to bring a vision into a reality. For any graphic design or branding company, this can provide challenges along the way, particularly when producing a result that meets with everyone’s ultimate vision, and meeting the often short timeline.

In the development of the branding for the 2014 Salvado Bicentenary Year for the Benedictine monks of New Norcia, which included the creative development of the Bicentenary Souvenir Booklet, many didatics for the In Search of Salvado exhibition, and all the other promotional material supporting this commemorative year, Ben Hames and his team were stars! They listened, they were open to feedback, and they produced alternative options in a time frame which enabled us to ultimately meet what we thought would be an impossible deadline.
