Cambridge Coastcare Interpretive
Cambridge Coastcare in a community based not-for-profit organisation with support from the Town of Cambridge whose primary objective is the restoration of the natural landscape surrounding City and Floreat Beaches.
Axiom Design Partners were commissioned to design and produce interpretive signage to be installed along the boardwalk within the dune system.
The primary objectives of the signage program are public education, to generate interest in the restoration project and to encourage visitors to respect the surrounding natural environment.
The interpretive signage panels explain the processes and techniques being used to restore the area as well as interesting facts about the natural environment and the species that inhabit the dune system. The design and content creation had to appeal to a wide audience, from children to adults and the execution had to be consistent with Cambridge Coastcare’s existing brand.
Being a not-for-profit organisation, special consideration to the signage structure was required to ensure the signage panels could be fixed to the existing handrails to maximise the cost effectiveness of the project. Material selection and construction methods also required special consideration to ensure longevity in a highly corrosive coastal environment and to protect against vandalism.
